FULL BIOGRAPHY

The story of Amberian Dawn began in the summer of 2006 when founding members Tuomas Seppälä and Tommi Kuri (R.I.P.) decided to create a new band following the disbandment of their previous group Virtuocity. They recruited drummer Heikki Saari (Norther, Finntroll, Whorion), keyboardist Tom Sagar, guitarist Sampo Seppälä, and vocalist Peter James Goodman. Soon after, classically trained soprano Heidi Parviainen (Iconofear) joined, completing the lineup. Amberian Dawn officially launched in 2007.

In 2008, the band recorded their debut album River of Tuoni, which was released in Europe, Japan, and several Asian territories. The album was followed by a European tour with Dutch symphonic metal band Epica, spanning 22 shows across eight countries and introducing Amberian Dawn to wider international audiences. Their 2009 release The Clouds of Northland Thunder, together with continued touring across Europe, including a second European tour with Epica, further strengthened the band’s growing reputation in the international symphonic metal scene.

2010’s End of Eden, released on Spinefarm Records, showcased Amberian Dawn’s signature fusion of metal and classical elements, featuring guest appearances from Jens Johansson of Stratovarius and Finnish opera singer Markus Nieminen. That same year, the band also brought their music to the Rock Band Network — the online platform connected to the popular rhythm video game Rock Band, where players perform songs using instrument-style controllers. Amberian Dawn quickly became a fan favorite on the service and ultimately released more songs to the Rock Band Network than any other band. In recognition of their popularity and contribution to the platform, game developer Harmonix selected Amberian Dawn as the Rock Band Network Artist of the Month for July 2011. The band also signed with Twisted Talent Concerts for management and bookings.

Subsequent albums Circus Black (2012), Magic Forest (2014), Innuendo (2015), and Darkness of Eternity (2017) continued to expand the band’s symphonic metal sound. In 2012, Heidi Parviainen departed from the band, and Finnish vocalist Capri joined, bringing a fresh and versatile voice that combined classical training with a strong rock and pop sensibility.

Amberian Dawn has toured extensively across Europe and the United States, performing alongside major metal acts such as Lacuna Coil, Epica, Delain, Van Canto, Tristania, Xandria, Serenity, and The Gentle Storm. Notable achievements include two performances on the renowned 70000 Tons of Metal cruise, appearances on German national television channel ZDF, and a 2023 video interview for CNN.

Over the years, the band has released ten studio albums and one re-recorded compilation, including the ABBA-inspired metal tribute album Take A Chance – A Metal Tribute to ABBA (2022). Amberian Dawn’s music is primarily composed by founding member Tuomas Seppälä, whose vision combines melodic precision, symphonic arrangements, and powerful metal energy. With a distinctive sound that bridges classical influences and modern melodic metal, Amberian Dawn continues to captivate audiences worldwide and has established itself as one of Finland’s most unique voices in symphonic metal.
